Over the past six months or so, I’ve been sifting through a lot of information regarding blogging, business, marketing, speaking and branding. Why? I want to serve my readers who want to change the world better (go here to fill out a readers survey helping me serve you).
I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what, you, my reader needs, so this blog isn’t just my mish-mash of feelings. I don’t want to be a personal journal or be the hero of the “do gooder” story. I love using my experience and knowledge to challenge, guide, and give others clarity on their path, their organization’s path, and their family’s path to make a difference regarding some of the big ticket issues of our day (like extreme poverty and injustice issues).
But although I actually find helping others define their mission and purpose, I am finding it very hard to get the right words to express what Average Advocate aims to be. I think a lot of this is because I need your input and want to use your words.
For example, Storybrand Marketing, by Donald Miller, teaches me to remove all vagueness and really tell you what I offer. Then you can quickly know if Average Advocate is for you–whether it can help you and if it is worth your time. Clearly communicating simply isn’t easy for me. If you don’t believe me, check out my rough drafts below trying to express what I do:
1.) I am a blogger & speaker, coaching ordinary people, families and organizations through intentional steps, to provide them with a clear path to impact the world so they don’t have to feel detached, aimless, and overwhelmed
2.) We are bloggers and speakers coaching ordinary people and orgs to take the intentional steps they need to have vision & methods to impact the world with their families
3.) We are bloggers and speakers coaching ordinary people and orgs to take intentional steps to have vision & methods to impact the world
4.) Average Advocate exists to coach ordinary people and organizations through intentional steps, to give them vision & an approach (or tactics? method? means?) to impact the world for good with their families rather than feeling aimless, detached and overwhelmed.
5.) I am a blogger speaker coaching ordinary people, families and organizations through intentional steps so they can clarify who they are, their vision, and discover methods to impact the world
6. )Average Advocate exists to coach ordinary people and organizations through intentional steps, providing a clear path to impact the world through orgs and overwhelmed families
7.) Average Advocate will coach you through where to start, clarifying who you are, defining your vision and discovering your best path to impact the world on global issues so you don’t remain detached, aimless, and overwhelmed
8.) Average Advocate will coach you from start to success in discovering your best path to impact the world on global issues so that you don’t remain detached, aimless, and overwhelmed
See! I told you this wasn’t that easy! (If you like one of those, particularly, please let me know below in the comments!) Before, I used to just be happy if the things on this blog fell under the tagline “Inspiring average people to change the world.” But this isn’t clear enough because:
- How do I expect you to change the world?
- Is a clear path laid out?
- Do you have to figure out and navigate all the information I give you on your own, thereby being more of a brain drain?
- What does “inspired” mean on a practical level?
You can come and go from this website in a heartbeat–many do–and still feel detached, aimless, and overwhelmed (or totally disinterested). In person I might be able to walk with people and organizations down this intentional path, but I’ve never made that accessible to Average Advocate readers. But it is time for that to change.
I want this website to be designed to serve my readers.
Considering, I am putting out a readers survey. I realize this will take five minutes of your time, and that might be asking too much. I respect that, if so.
On the other hand, I really believe I can offer you something if you desire to make an impact in the short time you are on earth. I can help you clarify where and how to get involved, as I’ve done it many times before with people who are now making a difference in their best niche. But for me to give that “something” to you, I need to be able to clearly define it and learn what hinders you from engaging in issues like extreme poverty, modern slavery, clean water initiatives, loving your neighbor, orphan care and other injustices.

I really appreciate it! Thank you & thank you! Also, if you like one of those above statements defining what Average Advocate does, let me know below in the comments. Thanks!
If you are new to Average Advocate and so very kindly doing me a favor, first of all, thanks!
I like #8 best, but each one has some verbiage that I like.
