My episode on the Far from Home podcast is live! It was an honor to talk with Mabel Ninan about raising justice-minded kids in the context of immigration, faith, and social activism.

In this conversation, I share why I sometimes describe myself as a “hidden immigrant,” and how that perspective has shaped the way I think about belonging, justice, and the way we raise our kids.

We talk about what it means to raise justice-minded children based on my book. Justice-Minded kids are those who grow up with compassion, empathy, and a willingness to care about people whose stories are different from their own. I share practical ways parents can help their children care about immigrants and refugees, build real relationships across cultures, and learn to use their voices to advocate for others.

Takeaways

  • Raising justice-minded kids requires intentional conversations and everyday practices that grow confidence
  • If we lean into faith, trusting God, we begin seeing the oppurtunities placed in front of us to build relationships with immigrants and refugees
  • Every child is different, and each one can learn to advocate in ways that fit their personality and gifts.

Just a reminder—none of us have this figured out. I’d love your thoughts on how you’re raising Justice-minded kids, especially if you have ideas for engaging your teens!
